Oracle of Delphi — Twelve Years of Service

The Athena temple complex, including the Delphic Tholos. The background is the Pleistos River Valley.

The Pythia instructed Hercules to go to Tiryns and serve King Eurystheus for twelve years, performing whatever labors the king assigned. If he completed them all, he would be purified of his crime and rewarded with immortality. Hercules, despising Eurystheus, nonetheless obeyed.
