Statue of Hercules and Megara-Megara was the oldest daughter of Creon, king of Thebes. In reward for Heracles' defending Thebes from the Minyans at Orchoes in single-handed battle, Creon offered his daughter Megara to Heracles and he brought her home to the house of Amphitryon. She bore him a son and a daughter, whom Heracles killed when Hera struck him with temporary madness.
As a reward for liberating Thebes from the tribute it paid to Orchomenus, King Creon gave Hercules his daughter Megara in marriage. They had several children together and lived in happiness — until Hera intervened once more.
