Attila died on the night of his latest wedding, to a young woman named Ildico. He was found drowned in his own blood — most likely from a severe nosebleed, possibly exacerbated by heavy drinking. He was buried in a secret location by servants who were then killed to protect the site. He was approximately 46–47 years old.
