Mitsuhide is defeated by Toyotomi Hideyoshi at the Battle of Yamazaki. Shortly afterward, Mitsuhide is killed while fleeing. Accounts differ: some say he died in battle, others say bandits or peasants killed him, some legends claim he escaped and lived secretly as the monk Tenkai.
