He pointed out that Catholics today are still persecuted and killed for practicing their faith. This is especially in places such as various places in Africa, Asia, and the Middle East. The pope also acknowledged “hidden martyrs”, those who receive slander, suspension, and other things for practicing Catholicism. These individuals have a strong devotion to God.
