By the year 1211, the Realm of Man had been embroiled in the War in Heaven for three hundred years. The kingdoms of Europe were petty, squabbling polities that fell easily to the Demon Hordes. In the eastern Duchy of Silesia, two brothers, the princes Henryk and Konrad Piast, began individual campaigns of expansion, Henryk to the North and Konrad to the South. Konrad's warpath led him from Katowice to the Alps, while Henryk took all the lands between his brother's domain and the Baltic Sea. This expansion was known as the Nowy Cel (tl. New Goal). By 1229, the decimated Germanic states had been united into two Kingdoms; the Southern Kingdom was known as Nowycelić, and the Northern Kingdom was called Lechia-Ruthenia.
