The First Rumelian War

In 1807, the region known as Rumelia, in the southeast of Novoselic, became a battleground between the Scythian and Ottoman Empires, eventually forcing the Novosel King Friedel II to declare war against both of them. The Rumelian War would become a major drain on Novoselic's resources, dulling the country's newfound status as a Post-War Superpower. Rumelia was not a valuable location on its own. It was home to farmers, simple folk with little to their name. The real value was in the lands directly North of Rumelia, the site of the former Kievan Rus, known as the Russlands. The soil quality in the Russlands was some of the best in the world, and both the dusty Ottoman and frozen Scythian lands paled in comparison to the growing power held by Novoselic's east.

Even after years of fighting, no consensus was reached. The Ottomans backed out of the war early, but Novoselic and Scythia fought to a standstill afterwards. Rumelia continued to belong to Novoselic, but the spirit of the region, and of the nation, was fractured, to the point where a civil war between North and South seemed inevitable.
