In the earlier months of 1875, the secluded Winter Isle, a part of the Ryukyu island chain, was attacked by unknown forces from Nihon, known at this juncture as Kinugawa. Cannons were brought to bear on the shores, and the natives of the island were slaughtered, irrelevant to the Kinugawa Clan's need for the Winter Isle's magical resources. Two of the surviving natives, Shinobu Hisame and Yoshitatsu Komeiji, went on to become major figures in the Second Warring States Period.
