At some point after the Moonlit Throne Incident in 1918, the Novosel hunter Ingfried Kriegmonte was kidnapped by agents of Holy Romagna. Upon freeing herself, she proceeded to cut a bloody swathe through the isolated nation, before killing the Pope Artiya'il and tearing the Basilica dell'Eccelso Sepolcro to the ground. This single act of violence undid centuries of sorcery and brainwashing for Holy Romagna's entire paladin caste, suddenly freeing the thousands of survivors from their angelic shackles. Though Ingfried was the woman who destroyed Holy Romagna, the Romans' other captive, an Ashina samurai named Kagetora Uesugi, helped the survivors rebuild for a short while.
