Kapono, now an ER nurse, admits him, but Kukui is too sick to recognize him. However, he and Hala make a plan to help Kukui recover.

Following, he moves back in with Hala and takes medical leave from his PhD at Molayne's suggestion. Kapono reintroduces himself into his life, but does not tell him how he was involved. He introduces Kukui to an MMA gym in town in efforts to help him find a new outlet.
