Partially because he did so well in the Island Challenge, and partially because Hala starts dropping hints about Kukui getting involved with Kahunaship, Kukui sets out to Kanto. He catches the eye of Professor Oak when he makes it all the way to Lance, and promises to mentor Kukui when he shows interest in academia.
