As the year progresses, Peter & the Darlings get to know each other with Peter slowly becoming more and more of an aspirational figure for Danny in place of Adult Wendy who, while not fully neglecting the kids yet, definitely doesn’t pay as much attention to them as she should, which leads to many things in the kids' lives going unmonitored such as Jane's growing resentment towards the Darling Family legacy and it's customs/expectations, leading her to become a much more rebellious/emo-esque girl both clothing and personally-wise, and Danny having a growing interest in disassembling/tinkering with things like Peter's mobile phones, clocks, and even Peter's LumiVision tv as the technology was slowly growing in popularity at the time and absolutely facinated Danny, making him take it apart and reassemble it over and over again, which, while it was great that he was curious and learning so quickly after his initial creation, this tinkering did lead to problems in the mansion, specifically the TV later breaking permanently and Peter having to get another one. Peter himself wasn't to affected by this at all, seeing as it was great Danny was so curious and actually reminded him of Tinkerbell. Adult Wendy, however, was not so forgiving and secretly yelled at the poor boy while Peter wasn't looking, telling him to "behave" and "be better" or else she wouldn't "get into the family" which was something Adult Wendy had been preaching about to her kids for a while and and though Danny didn’t know all the details about what it meant, he did know that getting into the family was something that would make Adult Wendy happy, not, of course, seeing the blatant manipulation at play. So, believing his mother’s words, Danny’s tinkering suddenly came to a halt as he slowly started to withdraw his interests to appease his mother and Peter. However, while this made Adult Wendy very pleased with Danny, it made Peter very concerned and even a bit saddened as he felt that Danny was shrinking himself for him, but since he couldn’t figure out Adult Wendy was behind it, he didn’t want to interrogate Danny further, fearing it would just make the withdrawal worse. In lighter news, by the time 2001 rolls around, all of the lost boys had been found by the Starkid association, meaning filming on the movie could begin. And while, earlier, this would’ve made Danny light up with excitement, now he dreaded the idea of going on set. This was because he was mostly terrified of being alone since Jane didn’t really pay too much attention to Danny and neither did Adult Wendy. So, when he got to the set Danny was expecting the other lost boys to also not pay attention to him, and that was mostly true…except for the youngest lost boy, Bucky (movie name “Tootles”), who had already just come from his own orphanage after separating from Michael Darling & the safe house #953 drama, so he was also lonely. This led to the two toddler-looking characters becoming very close friends onset, with the two often sneaking behind the set between takes to look at the props, costumes, and most importantly, the Jolly Rodger II’s inner mechanisms that allowed the boat to move on the water. These mechanisms fascinated Danny so much that they made him want to know everything about them and even get into tinkering once again, but hidden of course from Peter and Adult Wendy. Along with Tinkering, Danny also got closer with Bucky via coloring with him, telling him his stories, and even Bucky telling Danny about safe house #953 as no one else would believe or listen to it. However, it wasn’t all good as tensions had been subtly rising onset starting with Adult Wendy’s neglect getting worse, specifically with Danny, clearly favoring Jane over him though she still did neglect Jane as well. This led to Dany’s belief that he just wasn’t good enough and he just needed to work harder to “earn” Adult Wendy’s love, not knowing that Adult Wend simply did not care about or like him at all. This neglect reached a boiling point when, one day out of nowhere, Danny randomly fainted as he was playing backstage with Bucky. This sent panic waves through the Peter Pan cast until the onset doctor checked him out and concluded Danny just had a starshift seizure; a normal Disney character condition where the stardust inside the body shifts dramatically, causing the character affected to either stare off into space or faint. This came as a huge relief to the Peter Pan cast, especially after also finding out that the simple cure was one pill every day. Unfortunately Adult Wendy didn’t give him the pill often and when she did, she shamed him for needing it, calling him an "embarrassment" to her and further pushing him into minimizing himself to make her happy. All of this neglect happened in private so no one knew what was going on and whenever Bucky tried to ask Danny about it, Danny would just reply with an "I'm fine” and fake smile. Even though he was not fine.
